Topic: October - Domestic Violence Awareness Month Presentation by Cornerstone
October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).
Domestic violence is a complicated and complex social and relational issue without easy answers. MPA’s DE&I Committee and Litigation Sectional will host Cornerstone for a presentation* investigating the trauma of domestic violence and issues surrounding legal avenues for victims’ safety.
We will explore questions such as:
CORNERSTONE
Is a multi-service organization founded in 1983. We are dedicated to helping individuals experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking achieve safe, healthy, and stabilized lives for themselves and their children. We are also committed to ensuring that all victims of crime have crisis support and services available to address trauma and its consequences.
Cornerstone’s continuum of service helps to create communities where individuals and families are safe, and children thrive. We advocate, educate, and lead the way to social change.

SPEAKERS:
Cheryl Kolb-Untinen, MS, Prevention, Education and Clinical Services Program Director:
Ms. Kolb-Untinen has over 25 years of experience working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence-over 17 at Cornerstone-in a multitude of settings including hospital ER’s, emergency and extended stay shelters, criminal and civil court and in the provision of therapy. She has an AA in Police Science from Milwaukee Area Technical College, a BA in Applied Behavioral Science and an MS in Counseling from National Louis University in Evanston, IL. She is a Certified Danger Assessor with Dr. Jacqueline Campbell’s Danger Assessment protocol and is also a Certified Personal Empowerment Facilitator through Twin Cities RISE Empowerment Institute. She is a community trainer for the U of M’s Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy and regularly speaks and provides trainings to diverse audiences on domestic violence, sexual violence, trauma, and compassion fatigue.
