Join us for an intuitive presentation on What is Basis and Why Must it be Consistent pursuant the Internal Revenue Code. Learn the definition of basis, how it is determined (including property acquired by gift or from a decedent), why basis is important, why it must be consistent, basis reporting and completing IRS Form 8971.

Speakers: 

Cindy J. Ackerman, Attorney

Counseling in the areas of estate planning, probate, trust, and taxation law, Cindy J. Ackerman guides individual and corporate clients through sophisticated wealth management and asset transfer decisions and planning. She is known for effectively combining an empathetic approach with professional prowess to achieve her clients’ business and personal goals.


Qualified as a CPA, Cindy regularly contributes as a co-author of major estate and trusts administration reference books published yearly by Minnesota State Bar Association Continuing Legal Education, including the recent publications, Minnesota Trust Administration, Third Edition (2014) and Minnesota Estate Administration, Fourth Edition (2012).


Cindy has also reviewed forms for the Minnesota Continuing Legal Education Probate Forms Committee, and has taught probate courses for the National Business Institute, the Minnesota Paralegal Institute, and the Institute for Paralegal Education.
