Topic: District Court Judge - Perspectives from the Bench

Welcome back, Rochester MPA members! I trust you all had a wonderful summer break. For our September meeting, we have the honor of having Judge King come speak to us about her experience as a district court judge. This is one you don't want to miss! Judge King will provide a perspective from the bench about how paralegals can most effectively assist in the representation of clients appearing before the district court. This will be an informal presentation. Questions are encouraged.

Note: We will be in Meeting Room A, located on the first floor. Library staff can direct you. (Meeting Room B on the 2nd floor was not available).

Speaker: Judge Pamela King

3rd Judicial District Court Judge Pam King is chambered in Olmsted County and serves as the backup judge for the Dodge and Olmsted County Drug Courts. She was appointed in October 2015 and subsequently elected in October 2016. Prior to being appointed to the bench, Judge King worked full-time as an attorney for the Minnesota Public Defender. In this role, she handled cases involving complex litigation and/or forensic science. She consulted with public defenders and private defense lawyers on a variety of issues including forensic DNA, forensic pathology, toxicology and drug chemistry. She was a participant and then facilitated the Minnesota State Public Defender DNA Institute. In 2018 Judge King was awarded the Magnus Mukoro Award for Integrity in Forensic Science by New York City Legal Aid Society. Judge King served as a Commissioner on the National Commission on Forensic Sciences. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and is a member in the Minnesota Association of District Court Judges.
