Topic: Best Practices for Intellectual Property Cease and Desist Letters

“Cease and Desist” letters are common in intellectual property practice, but they are not always simple to draft. They often have unexpected consequences. We will discuss the basic legal and business strategies behind their use in trademark, patent, and copyright enforcement programs. Learn how to assist your attorney, especially when asked to draft “our standard letter” (hint: there is no such thing).

Speaker: Robin Sannes and Peter Forrest

Robin is a partner at Dicke, Billig & Czaja, PLLC and practices in the area of intellectual property law. Robin is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota. In the area of patent law, her technical experience is in a variety of food processing and mechanical fields.

Robin’s practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, the preparation and prosecution of trademark applications, coordinating and assisting with foreign patent and trademark prosecution, patentability analysis, trademark availability analysis, infringement analysis, validity analysis, litigation support, license agreements, strategic intellectual property planning, worldwide intellectual property management support, and client counseling. Robin excels at managing her clients’ global patent and trademark portfolios.

Peter is a registered patent attorney with a diverse business background and an insatiable curiosity about new technologies. A senior attorney at Dicke, Billig & Czaja since 2010, Peter is certified by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. His clients receive broad-based, cost-effective advice based on his balanced practice of creating, licensing, and litigating patent issues. Clients throughout the U.S., the Pacific Rim and Europe value his services.

Peter is widely experienced in dozens of technical fields, notably electronics, optics, materials science, computer architectures and applications, data storage, financial and e-commerce methods, and medical devices in the cardiac, orthopedic, and neurological markets, among others. Peter’s considerable litigation experience includes e-commerce methods, bulk material conveyors, ball point pens, golf course management software, and feminine hygiene products.

Peter has taught graduate level classes and spoken at many conferences around the world on topics related to technology and patent litigation.
