Topic: Ask the Probate Registrar – a Q&A Session with Laura Stevens, Ramsey County Probate Registrar

Have you ever wondered…do you need a probate to close a bank account or to sell a Deceased person’s property…do you need to add the legal description to the probate application/petition…how do you determine who the heirs of an estate are…what if you cannot locate the original Will…when are you required to serve Notice on the Attorney General or the consulate of a foreign country…what happens when a Demand for Notice is filed…when does an informal probate need to be converted to a formal…and so on and so on. Well, here’s your opportunity to ask the Probate Registrar your questions on all things probate.

Submit your questions to Laura.Stevens@courts.state.mn.us with “Question for MPA Q&A Session” in the subject line before Wednesday, February 23, 2022, then join us on March 9th. Laura will prepare written answers to your questions and go over them during the presentation. If time allows Laura will also go over “Reasons for Informal Declination.”

Speakers: Laura J. Stevens, Ramsey County Probate Registrar

Laura J. Stevens received her Associate of Science Degree in Legal Secretary from Mankato State University and received her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paralegal from Inver Hills Community College.

She began her career working as a legal secretary, then as a probate paralegal. Throughout the years, she has worked at various law firms and a title company.

Laura has been the Ramsey County Probate Registrar since February 2013.

Laura grew up on a farm in New Ulm, Minnesota. She currently resides in Howard Lake, Minnesota with her husband and has three adult children.
