Topic: Income Withholding 101

Hennepin County Child Support will be talking about the things we all want to know about and more.

a. What does income withholding do for the recipient of child support/spousal maintenance?

b. Explain the difference between income withholding services only vs. full support services.

c. What resources are available to the obligee as far as enforcement, tracking arrears, seeking reimbursement of uninsured/unreimbursed medical/dental expenses for kids, etc.?

d. How can we help our clients get started with income withholding?

e. Is there specific language that the child support office/income withholding overlords prefer in Orders related to income withholding?

f. Are there certain things the child support office can’t do to withhold income? (i.e. What if the obligor is self-employed, or only receives SSDI for income – will initiating income withholding be the best solution?)

g. And more.

Speakers: Kerri Sutton and Wendy Foss

Kerri Sutton: Kerri started working for Hennepin County child support 21 ½ years ago. She worked in the interstate intake department (obtaining new orders) until she became a supervisor in interstate enforcement (enforcing orders) in the fall of 2011. Prior to that, she worked for Anoka County child support for 6 years, in both the enforcement and paternity units.

Wendy Foss: Wendy started working for Hennepin County child support 26 years ago. She has always worked in the enforcement area and enjoys the challenge of her current position on the interstate enforcement team. She finds working in child support to be very rewarding and feels privileged to have a job that makes a difference.
